Joint Schools Activities, Inc. (JSA), is a non-profit organization created and supported by the Parent Associations of Independent Schools in Manhattan and Riverdale. JSA Upper School Student and Parent representatives from member schools meet monthly to plan and organize community service and cultural events that take place over the course of the school year. The majority of the events and activities are community service projects run by the student reps with participation from students from all the independent schools, though two events each year are cultural: A poetry reading and published anthology, and a photography exhibit, both of the work of students from all of the participating schools.
Past and ongoing activities include:
Creating birthday cards for clients of God’s Love We Deliver
Making Valentine’s Day candy bags and gifts for patients of The Kravis Childrens Hospital at Mt. Sinai
Making sandwich bags for the homeless
Volunteering at Yorkville Common Pantry
Hosting a Holiday Carnival for underprivileged children
Annual student photography exhibition: Independent Visions
Annual poetry reading and published anthology: Independent Voices
Our mission statement:
We are a community of communities.
We create opportunities for teenage students from many independent schools in Manhattan and Riverdale to come together for good works and good fun. We have a program of community service as well as cultural and social events.
We are a non-profit organization, created and supported by the parents associations of the member schools, in close cooperation with their teachers.
We seek to create warm bonds between students, parents, and schools.
